Reef & Kiln

We don't paint our pots. We mix oxides, stack the kiln, and let the fire decide where the celadon pools and the copper crawls. Every piece leaves the studio one of a kind.

The material is the maker

A reactive glaze is never finished by the potter. It is finished by heat, by ash, by the way two oxides meet at 1,280°C.

Reef & Kiln works in flowing celadons and copper-oxide rust — glazes formulated to move, pool and crackle in the kiln rather than sit flat. We throw small, fire slow, and accept what the fire returns. No two surfaces are the same, and that is the whole point.

Glaze Library

Four living surfaces

Each glaze is a recipe and a behaviour — how it breaks over an edge, where it crawls, what it does to the clay beneath.

Reef Celadon
Translucent sea-green that pools jade in the hollows and runs pale over the rims. Fine craquelure throughout.
Cone 10 reduction
Copper Ash
Wood-ash glaze loaded with copper oxide. Metallic rust where it thins, deep oxblood where it pools.
Cone 10 reduction
Tidewrack
A reactive overlap of celadon under copper — the two crawl into each other like a tide line on wet sand.
Cone 9–10
Bone Frost
A dry matte clay-white that crackles as it cools, leaving a frosted, chalk-soft tooth on the surface.
Cone 6 oxidation

Workshops
Two-day reactive-glaze intensives. Mix oxides, dip test tiles, read a kiln log, fire your own pieces.

Commission a set

Tell us what the table should feel like.

Reactive-glaze commissions open in small windows each season. Send the brief — service size, glaze, the room it lives in — and we'll send back a kiln slot and a quote.
